Clarice L. Belcher
My experience with Nonviolent Communication began in 2001 when I first learned of Marshall Rosenberg and his seminal work, Nonviolent Communication.
Two years later, I met Marshall Rosenberg during a five-day workshop when he came to Atlanta to share his work with the general public. Intrigued by his approach to communication, I attended a 9-day International Intensive Training Program in Georgia that Marshall Rosenberg facilitated in 2005.
Since then, I have been practicing the principles of nonviolent communication in my own life—personally with my life partner, family, and friends, and professionally, offering workshops and practice groups for others interested in the work as well, calling it Language of Compassion.
The amazing opportunity this work offers is changing our neural pathways from one way of thinking to another, helping us develop skills for telling our truths in ways that do not wound others. We learn a new way of communicating that, with practice, deepens our connection with ourselves and others, enabling us to build community with one another.
Further, we learn to ask for what we need in a healthy way that promotes honesty, authenticity, understanding, compassion, and opportunities for growth and connection.
In this way, we come from a place of strength, for sharing our vulnerability takes great courage. In sharing what is alive in us, we empower ourselves to be heard and understood in ways that contribute to the well-being of all.
If you discover a resonance for any of the information in this website, then I
encourage you to read Marshall Rosenberg’s Nonviolent Communication. Although Marshall was a psychologist, he wrote in everyday language, using
everyday examples. Additionally, Marshall has written Speak Peace in a World of Conflict, along with a number of short pamphlets.

I would love to hear your observations and to answer your questions.
You are not alone in your need to grow and learn and to be heard.
